AI4U LLC ("we", "our", or "us") operates the FishWise mobile application. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information when you use our app.
Information Collection
FishWise is designed with your privacy in mind. Here's what you should know:
- Local Storage: Your catches, trips, and fishing data are stored locally on your device. We do not upload or store this data on our servers unless you choose to share catches to the Community.
- Camera Access: We request camera access solely for fish identification. Photos are sent securely to Google Gemini AI for processing and are not stored on our servers.
- Location Data: If you enable location services, we use this to provide fishing forecasts, weather conditions, and spot analysis. Your coordinates are sent to our weather and AI service providers to deliver localized information. Location data is not stored on our servers.
Community & Social Features
FishWise includes an optional Community feature that allows you to share catches, follow other anglers, and interact with the fishing community. When you sign in and share catches:
- Authentication: You can sign in with Apple, Google, or email. With Apple, we receive your Apple-provided name and email (or relay address if you choose "Hide My Email"). With Google, we receive your name and email from your Google account. With email sign-in, we collect only the email address you provide. Email addresses are used solely for authentication and account recovery — we will not send marketing emails.
- Profile Data: Your username, display name, bio, avatar photo, and location are stored on our servers (hosted by Supabase).
- Shared Catches: When you share a catch, the photo, catch details, and caption are uploaded and stored on our servers. Only catches you explicitly share are uploaded.
- Location Privacy: You control how your fishing spot location is shared — exact location, general area (~5 mile radius), or hidden entirely. Your default preference is saved in your profile.
- Social Interactions: Follows, likes, and comments are stored on our servers.
- Push Notifications: If you enable Community notifications, your device push token is stored on our servers and shared with Expo to deliver notifications for likes, comments, and new followers.
- Content Removal: You can unshare any catch at any time, which removes it from the community and deletes the photo from our servers.
- Account Deletion: You can permanently delete your Community account and all associated data (profile, shared catches, follows, likes, comments, and push tokens) from the Privacy & Security screen within the app. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
Community features are entirely optional. Your local catch history remains on your device regardless of whether you use social features.
Contact Information
If you contact us through the in-app support form, we collect your email address and message content to respond to your inquiry. This information is used solely for customer support purposes.
Pricing
FishWise is currently free with all features unlocked. No payment information is collected.
Third-Party Services
FishWise uses the following third-party services:
- Google Gemini AI: For fish identification and spot analysis. Images and location data are sent securely for processing.
- Google Sign-In: For account authentication. Google receives standard OAuth data during sign-in. We receive your name and email from your Google profile.
- WeatherAPI: For fishing forecast and weather data. Location coordinates are sent to provide localized forecasts.
- Supabase: For Community features — user profiles, shared catches, and social interactions are stored securely on Supabase-hosted infrastructure. Authentication via Apple, Google, and email is processed through Supabase Auth.
- Expo: For push notification delivery. Your device push token is shared with Expo's push notification service to send Community notifications (likes, comments, new followers). Expo does not receive any personal identifying information.
- Amazon Associates: FishWise contains affiliate links to Amazon.com. When you tap "Shop on Amazon," you are directed to Amazon's website. Amazon may collect data according to their own privacy policy. We do not share any personal information with Amazon — the affiliate link only contains a tag that identifies the referral as coming from FishWise.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Since most data is stored locally on your device, your data security is largely dependent on your device's security settings. Data transmitted to third-party services is sent over secure, encrypted connections.
Children's Privacy
FishWise does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
